Accord // Canon
There he is in the lobby, minding his own business. Sitting in one of those low-backed chairs near the fireplace, cheating around Tabby's complaints by making sure they're only lit during the daytime. He gets his comfy warmth and a book, and she doesn't run into horrible rage-trigger madness when she shows up. Everyone wins.
But that aside, he's not paying attention. Rather absorbed, actually, since this story is a pretty good one.

Yes, yes, it's all perfect. And he has been biding his time.
As careless as he seems about most things, he can't help but make notes and count the passing of days. He has been waiting.
It's finally time to strike.
Slinking up behind Robin, quick but far quieter than he usually bothers trying to be, he softly slips his arms down around his shoulders as soon as he reaches him. Draping like Robin likes to do, but less heavy about it, he just slides arms around and hugs close, nuzzles right in along his neck with a breath against skin. And then, he lifts his face enough to bring his mouth right near Robin's ear.
He's grinning.
"...Happy Anniversary."
no subject
And then. He says it.
And he's right back to shocked (and maybe a little horrified).
"...Huh...?"
Happy... What? What?
no subject
He says it again. It's low, almost a purr.
It's been a year. A whole year. He really wants that to sink in.
And the satisfaction is simply overflowing. Hanging down on Robin's shoulders like a heavy blanket, he presses a sweet--but very intentional--kiss against his cheek. Just sticking the point home a little further with something tangible.
"It's today."
no subject
A whole... year? Since what, since he met him? Since they went on that stupid "date"? Since-- No, what is Tek even implying, here? He thought they-- This is upsetting all of what he thought was the case between them and he needs to set the record straight here.
"Since... What exactly?"
And this doesn't even factor in the way he's trying furiously to calculate and divide up months from the way that he's used to them to the way that this place calculates things and... he guesses it's... a little shorter anyway? It's really upsetting. He's got no idea. What's even going on?
no subject
He stays draped, wrapping Robin in some quiet omnipresent affection that he didn't ask for. He kisses him again, his jawline this time, and pulls his arms a little more snug around his shoulders.
"Since we've been mates."
Which is something Robin has never bothered to deny. Tek has kept track.
no subject
That aside, though, he doesn't really know what to say at all, so he'll just sit there and flounder for words and try miserably to hide his embarrassment (the worst part of it all being that he can't explain why he's embarrassed about it).
no subject
He's been waiting for it for long enough. Months and months; it makes up for a lot. He likes that it has weight, for both sweetly-vindicating and maybe-cruel reasons.
So, he watches him squirm and shy away in his arms for a minute, revels in it, before finally easing up. He straightens and circles around the arm of the couch to take a seat beside Robin, nice and close but not all over him like he was before.
"...I guess that means you didn't get me anything, hmm?"
no subject
He hasn't even closed his book yet.
"N-No, I..." Didn't... do anything. And he's pretty sure he shouldn't feel guilty about that because it's not like he knew it was a thing. He didn't even think it was a thing-- Is it a thing? He still doesn't know!
no subject
Nah. This is still too good.
So, once he's settled next to him, he turns as much as he can in his seat so he can kind of stare more directly at him.
"What if I told you that I got you something?"
no subject
"You didn't." Which is not disbelief. He's stating it as fact, and he sounds pretty sure of it. Tek didn't do anything; he knows he's being teased.
no subject
"Your face--!" followed by a horrible little giggle.
He just can't get over it. Simply delighted. What an expression...
"Why do you look like that?"
no subject
He doesn't want to talk about it. He sinks a little more and thinks about running off while he still has a chance.
no subject
He will not make escape easy, if Robin tries to opt for it.
"What's wrong? You look so upset."
no subject
"That's just..." He rubs his face in building irritation. He knows Tek is just fucking around with him. "That's just a long time, is all."
no subject
On the word, he gives Robin's arm an idle squeeze. Just pushing his luck, little by little.
"I would have thought it'd be hardly a blink, especially for you." Which is probably a big part of why this is so funny.
no subject
"Whatever." He shoots him a look. "Anything else you wanna tease me about?"
no subject
He lets him go again, leans more properly back into his own space. He likes being mean, but... he at least has to pace himself. It is their anniversary, after all.
"You're so sensitive."
He slouches down a little, not quite matching Robin but getting a little closer.
"Anniversaries are supposed to be good days, aren't they?"
no subject
"Does that mean I have to tell you what a pleasure it's been?"
no subject
He gives the barest sly glance over when his shoulder is bumped.
"Well, it hasn't been all bad, has it?"
no subject
It's true. It's actually been, in his opinion, some of the nicest company he's had for a long time. Even if it's all fake and self-flattery and probably doomed to fail.
"...A whole year, huh?" He finally closes his book. He's settled down a little. "I think your answer's right there."
no subject
So, for a second, the satisfaction on his face is something that almost seems honest.
He's sure to pull it back, though.
"So," folding his hands in his lap, "What should we do?"
no subject
He can't help it. It's the slightest of looks, but it almost makes him forget the horror that Tek just dragged him through. His begrudging tone can't last. He's probably not done dragging, but here he is thinking of something for them to do anyway. He wouldn't mind an outing, at the very least.
"...Would you like to go out? Somewhere fancy?"
no subject
At least he can try to cover it up with mulling over the matter at hand.
"Isn't that what you're supposed to do on an anniversary?" --asks the guy who started this whole thing.
no subject
He almost rolls his eyes. He knows what you're doing, Tek. And it's cute, sure. He leans forward, propping his head up against one of his hands. He's looking forward, trying to think of places he knows.
"Somewhere rich people go to pretend they have taste, that'd be fun." They could chuckle to themselves over the poor choices of others. "Somewhere with dancing, too."
no subject
The restaurants on the boats in the prettiest canals. He's always wanted to see more of those. Those are the ones that just aren't nearly as enjoyable without someone else to comment on the crowd with, and his girls tend to be much more reserved in the conversation department.
He shrugs, though. He doesn't want to be the one picking a place today, as he points out by not quite letting a point escape just yet--
"I wouldn't know, though. I've never thought anniversaries worth bothering with."
